Παπαγάλος Σενεγάλης (Senegal parrot)

The Senegal parrot is one of the best-known African parrots along with the Grey. It is one of the 9 species of the genus Poicephalus. It lives from 30 to 50 years. Senegal parrots are 23 centimeters long while their weight ranges between 125 and 155 grams. Their color is green, except for the belly which has a V with yellow, orange or red, depending on the subspecies. Their head is gray and their beak is black. The iris of the eyes is black in young birds, but it slowly opens until it becomes light yellow in adult birds. The male and female have no external differences and the only accurate method for finding the sex is through DNA. However, females usually have a slightly smaller body and head, as well as the V on the chest is larger. The Senegal Parrot is particularly appreciated as a pet, because it is quite tame and develops into a devoted and loving companion that can learn to say a few words. It has all the characteristics of large parrots but is smaller in size and is a fairly quiet bird, which makes it ideal for apartments.
